I have a problem with my Jag not eating. All the other Cichlids go to the top of the tank and eat the pellets but my Jag just hangs around at the bottom and eats sand and then spits it out. Anyone have any ideas? I am beginning to get concerned for the welfare of my Jag. :(

it can me anything from intestinal blockage to intestinal parasites.....I had a jag with intestinal blockage and cured with epsom salt......you have to be more specific in the symptoms description.

Mine love bloodworms. I feed the frozen Hikari bloodworms because they are vitamin encapsulated. They hit pellets and spit them out. Mine also are eating tadpoles from my local pond......they're free and they love them.

well there is no other symptoms he just dont eat. I just got him about 2 weeks ago and he is still a baby fish. Ill try the bloodworm route.

well it might be stress from other fish how big are all the others as compared to your new little guy?

Also every jag I have owned ALWAYS had problems excepting pellets. You just got to force them and they eventually come through but I think your problem might be competition and stress.

Are they floating pellets? He might be too skiddish right now to swim to the top to accept them.. Try getting some sinking ones, or maybe crushing the floating ones and pushing them in the water. If that's not the case it might just be stubborn. I would try to get him stuck on pellets before anything else. He will eventually eat, has too.. If you get it hooked on bloodworms, it will never want to eat pellets, and will be a pricey staple as it grows..

I think you may be onto something. He seems very skiddish now I think about it. He is always hanging out in the holey rock.
