i have a great looking small male jag, and wanting to hybridize him as i have never before.

so what should i breed him to? and why?

Dempsey, because they are similar in form, and yours is pretty enough to produce something besides mud-like garbage hybrids. So many hybrids fail simply due to bad coloration of the genepools of the parents, but that's a hot jag. If you find an exceptional female dempsey, then at least some of the offspring should be AMAZING.

thanks mate!

the jag is roughly 11cm, do you think that is old enough to breed?
if i am going to breed these i will choose the best from this and line breed too. i like the idea of it. my dream is to acomplish a highly sought after fish that is very much good looking. i was thinking about cross breeding to a kinda of vieja, say a blackbelt, as the blackbelts colouration when hybridised seems to be recessive against the jag, but the body shape is the same. so in turn a blackbelt body with jag colours!

Most F1 hybrids look crappy so you have to cull through the crap to find the diamonds. If you could find a fry that keeps most of the Jag and fades like Amphilophus, that would be awesome. Or maybe Jag with a better body structure. Lots of possibilities, you just have to cull.
