Why is my jaguar cichlid dark in color he looks almost black

sounds like stress , is he a new addition ? Any pics ? Have you tested your water ?

Iv had him for a while now going on 3 months he is the newest addition to the tank tho I do frequent water changes but he eats and chases the jacks around

When I had spawning managuense back in the 80s, the juvies were always dark in color until they reached about 3" or 4", seems to be protective camouflage at a young age. There were also always a few individuals in each spawn that retained a dark color throughout life, although there brothers and sisters seemed to pick them off if left in the main fry tank.

We'll see he is about 7 inches long and nobody chases him he does the chasing lol expect the big oscar but the oscar doesn't bother at all

you want him/her to gold up? put a female/male in. or give it its own tank. what size tank he in?

He is in a 75 with two jacks

not a good combo for a Jag, I am not looking to offend you, or give you greife. you call he so i take a male, 75g not good for him, esp with other cichlids. male needs a larger tank or at the least tank to himself. IMHO.

I have a 125 he could go in but my female midevil is in there

would better to put in the 125 with a divider than leave ware it is, IMHO
