Hello, my member name is Jag13" because I saved a pair of male 13-14" Jaguar Cichlids from being destroyed. This lady couldn't care for them anymore so I bought them from her just in time.

So I bought a 150 gallon tank to put them in and they seem pretty happy. However, they both have some problems I am trying to take care of. One of the males seems to be pretty much blind in both eyes, I did a little research and it is his lens that are covered over with a thick white cloud directly in the center of his lens, his eyes move around normal, but I'm sure he can't see.

The other had a cloudy film over his eys and I have been treating him and he seems to be clearing up slowly, one eye is almost 90% clear and the other is about 60% clear. Any help from you guys that have experience with these kind of problems would be great!

My fish keeping experiance goes back into 1995 when I used to breed Oscars, I have been out of the game so to speak for over 10 years now. I'm gathering as much info. as I can about the Jaguar Cichlid.

Great to have a website out there like MFK.

PS. I'm also looking for a female Jag that I can breed with this one male who is responding to treatment when I get finished curing him.

Howdy and Welcome to MFK! The Central/South American Cichlids section looks to be where you'll want to spend plenty of time in.

Hi and welcome jag :)

welcome to MFK.. nice that you were able to save these jags.. i wish you alot of luck with them.. i also rescued my jag.. we are always trying to cure ongoing battle of hole in the head.. he is doing quite well despite a few scars.. he is 14 inches now.. they are so worth it.. nice to meet you..:D

Hi Chloe,

Thank you for the kind welcome and the help on my Jaguar. I put Jag ( his eye proplem was on the outside of his eyes) in his own tank, raised temp to 86, every day water changes, sea salt and Melafix and he is almost all clear in both eyes. he is going to be great and he is very strong. Now smokey has both lens completely covered in a thick white cloud, I will start treating him I think with something else.
