How will an adult behave in a tank??? are they lazy and lay and hide all day???? or are they like red devils and trimacs and just swim around the tank all day looking for something to do??? are they human responsive??? mine is only about 5 inches now and hides a lot and darts whenever I come near the tank. I have only had him for about a month so I know he still may be skittish but are they always like this???

They are actually pretty skittish when kept alone, but they will get used to you and eventually it may be trained. They ar enot exactly as outgoing as RD's

i have 2 pairs 4" and 10" and they are perrty active but i think it depends on the fish

mine are more oscar like i hand feed them and they follow me all around the tank. not skiddish at all but not overly aggressive

lol some of you say they hide all day and some say they will greet you like an Oscar lol ????? little undecided here LOL my problem is that in my 150 gallon I have two teenagers, 1 jag and 1 butti and not sure which one to keep. I look for a few things in a fish and I want you guys to help me use this to decide which fish to keep.

1.) Most importantly I love SIZE I LOVE huge fish

2.) I like colours, I don't want a simple non coloured fish

3.) I enjoy a fish that swims around and does not hide all the time

4.) I enjoy a fish that will interact with me, like my trimac is in the top corner of the tank waiting for food everytime he sees me, I like that

5.) Appetite... I like a fish that can eat because thats truly the only time you can really interact with a fish

6.) Ease of care, I don't like sensitive fish... I have a 135 gallon with discus and have enough work with that I don't want another tank like that.

Please use these criteria to grade these two fish to help me decide

as far as color if your buttikoferi is a male its color will dull out as it get bigger but the jag will not , just give the jag sometime and it will soon be your pride and joy

Dude keep the jag.

1) They have brilliant coloring when they get a bit older and wont dull out but continue to look better with age.
2) These fish can eat a ton.
3)Once they begin to truly feel secure in there tank they will swim about and be fairly active.
4) Once comfortable they will be very owner responsive, and sometimes go to the top of the tank for some food.
5) THEY ARE AWESOME FISH AND GROW TO MASSIVE LENGTHS AND ARE NICE AND ROBUST.:headbang2
