Wow only 12 hours since I put them together and looks like they are courting. I may be wrong although I really think something is happening. The male was in the tank before with a breeding pair of cons. He's only about 6" and never bothered anyone. Last night I put in the 10" female(as MFK members have told me the sex) it looked as if the male didn't like her cause he was constantly flairing out his gills at the female but wouldn't bite he was just swimming in circles all around the female flairing his gills. Then this morning I see the male all of a sudden playing landlord and kicking out the con couple. He wanted there old pit and forced them to move. Now he's in there moving sand and small rocks. his face is all battered from moving some river stones. Then she goes in for a bit and vibrates violently I assume to clear sand. This has to be the pit making, the only thing that turns me off is that the male keeps doing that flairing of the gills thing??? is that supposed to happen or is this just all aggression. I can't believe I'm this lucky I have only bred discus and cons and never any large cichlids so this is a new experience for me. I am also very new to Jaguars so it's even better. Is there anything I should do to set the mood a bit more
my temp is at 80 and water is pristine like usual.
OK there breeding while I was typing this the male con tried to move back into the old house through the back door and the male chased him out like a bat out of hell. He's never behaved that way!!!!! OOOOOOOHHHHHH YAA we got a pair. Well looks like the GT and Butti are going to be removed and the breeding cons I'll leave because they can hide somewhere else. Any tips are appreciated.
