Well I had a pair of jags, about 4.5 inches long or so, and the female got a huge belly, both of their spawning apparatuses came down, they fought with each other, and dug out a huge hole in the gravle under my dead wood...so I figured things would progress.

I knew the fry would not make it, I have other fish in the aquarium, and I'm ok with that.

When things got real serious, she kicked his butt, moved into another cave, and proceeded to swim about popping out eggs and eating them. What do y'all think of that??

I doubt it is a feeding problem, I feed them well on prepaired foods, frozen shrimp, crawfish, feeder minnows, and fishen worms.

Is is possible for them to just decide they dont like their mate? He is a puss, he gets pushed around by everyone, even the little 2.5 inch Texas.

Thanks for the info!

I would say it's directly related to having other fish in the tank. I had a group of jags in about 800 gallons. I had five total: two pair and one odd ball. When one pair decided to set up shop, they kept the other three huddled in a corner. If the breeding pair felt the other fish were a threat at any point, they'd off the eggs.

Maybe that is the problem. It could be the other fish, or maybe he did say something wrong! LOL It was cool to see them acting all broody there for a while.
Thanks for the help!

800G wow that is sweet!
