which do you prefer and why. why one better than the other, in your opinion ofcourse. what makes them special to you?. you can post a pic of yours if you want but please keep it to ONE pic so things don't go off topic. I think this is a good thread for anyone with a big tank who may be faced with a decision like this. thanks guys.

In order for me it goes jags, dovii, umbee.
Reasons I like jags largest cichlid I can fit in a 125 personable, good colors, always interesting
Dovii love the colors but get to big and kill everything without fail
Umbee they are majestic but not my cup of tea and to house a adult I need double my current largest tank lol.
I've never personally owned dovii or umbee but my dad did when I was little

that's reasonable, I own a jag never owned an umbee and owned a dovii for like 3 weeks the little son of a bit** was 4 inches I sware he turned my convict into shredded wheat (that's what my dad called it lol) and if he wasn't in a fight he was attacking ongoers frequenting the room or just attacking the front of the glass continuously to no avail. he was extremely high strung like worst case scenario for a dovii community situation. they say its luck of the draw with naturally aggressive fish but let me tell u ive never seen a little baby fish that aggressive so early and im not exaggerating one bit. I think that if I would have raised him out he would have killed most of my fish and scratched the living sh** out of my tank. ive owned one other jag who was a nasty dominant son of gun but the jag I have now is soft as babyshi* im guessing cuz he was raised with the others. hes sick right now idk if hes gonna make it as of now it cud go either way

I think the Jag will win this vote easily. The 1 thing that I hate the most about my jag is he's camera shy... I walk up to the tank by myself, he swims quickly to the top where I always feed him and just stares at me. Then I grab the jar of NLS and he'll start glass banging til I drop him some. If I walk up with my camera out, he`ll show his bars, start swimming backwards, and clamp his fins. Besides that, had him since 1.5" and is the 1 fish I can't bring myself to get rid of even though he gets my 125 all to himself. He's family now I guess...

But when I'm finally able to get a house, hopefully in the next year or 2, I plan on getting a HUGE tank and getting an Umbee, Dovii, or both.

TO JRT. I think until jags get close to full size they can be kinda skittish. they prob gotta dovelop that "im a big ass fish no one can attack me" mentality cuz I never seen a skittish full grow jag ,ever

it use to be jags number one for me until i got my dovii. Absolutely love the pattern of a jag but everytime someone walks into my basment they are in aw at the size and aggressiveness of my dovii. Never really owned an aggressive jag before and never owned and umbee but i really like them and hope to own one in the future. so for me it goes dovii jag then umbee, that is unless i find me an umbee :)

also forgot to mention love love love how predatory jags are, never had a fish with such a big mouth and verocity for feeders, so much fun to watch them eat

hmmmm, really depends on what your after. I have kept all 3, the only one you have a chance for a community fish is the Jag IMO. I have seen Dovii and Umbee in community tanks but not when full grown. There is an Umbee on this site that is in a community tank but the tank is 1500 gallons haha. All have great personalities. My Dovii was a bit of a dough head though, nothing like the Dovii I see described here. My Umbee was just MEAN, bachelor pad only for him. For colour - the Umbee, for attitude - the Dovii, for compatibility - the Jag. IMO
