how do you tell the sexes apart when they are young? as i would like to get a male if someone could post pics of theirs when young and what sex they became would help.

It's extremely difficult to sex young Jags until they get to about 4". IME at this size the males barred pattern will begin to break up and the end result will be a spotted jigsaw type effect and he will also have more vibrant irredesent rainbow like colouring where as a female will maintain the barred pattern and have a distinct gold base colour. Although i doubt you'll notice any of this in an LFS, probably the best way would be to get the biggest one.HTH.

I know she is definitly female because she has eggs already{not that she is mature enough} they would not develope at this age.. but at least i know for certain that she is female.
