My pair have just started to build a nest,head shake, chase everybody away from the nest. The question is why are they doing this now at 5 inches and 4 months?? Seems too early I think..What age do they begin to spawn normally?

Many Cichlids can breed around the 5" rang. I have had Trimacs and Midas both do it. Most likely they are more like 6-7 months aswell. Anyway, Goodluck.

Thats with power feeding and temp at 82 degrees. A mistake most people make is they base the age of their fish on when they got them. Most likely the fish is 3-6 months old when they get them.
Ok thanks that helps a lot. Yeah I have had them for 4 months so iguess there like 6 montha old.She didnt eat today so i think its gonna pop out some eggs anytime now.
