I have a beautiful chubby female jaguar catfish arround 5-6 inches long that i got a couple of months ago. It doesnt come out too often cuz they dont like the light. a couple of days ago she came out to eat and she had all kinds of cuts on top and on the left side of her head! not scratches... cuts... and now im wondering whos doing this to her. especially that i have pretty calm fish in my 180g tank. i have 4 angelfish, 4 rainbow fish, 3 pictus, 1 pleco and 1 ID shark. all 3 to 5 inches... ive seen the pictus push her arround when shes hiding but r they capable of hurting her hat bad?! and wat can i do?!
thanx

do you have a lot of rocks or other ornaments in your tank with sharp edges? I would guess that is the problem more than your fish.

i dont no wat kind of rainbow fish they r but 2 of them r half yellow half blue and the 2 others are blackish with red tails. and i do not have sharp rocks... only drift wood and plants. for the jag i just got lucky... my lfs just got ONE and i immediatly bought it! its beautiful!!!thats why im pissed that its getting hurt.

My cats and oscars have gotten bad cuts from driftwood... is the pictus pushes her around, he could push her into the driftwood, thus causeing the cuts

By Rainbow fish... are you talking about the Epalzeorhynchos frenatum?

They can be aggressive... just something to look into :D

P.S. Where did you get your Jag??? Inquiring minds want to know :D

yea im looking for some jag cats too lol

yeah i think its her cutting herself from the driftwood...when i first got her she was tiny n she was able to go threw a lil hole in the driftwood to eat the pellets. but after a couple of weeks she got chubby and still tried to enter the hole and scratched herself. so i blocked the hole wit a plant. i guess shes just a stupid 1 lol. but i do see her gettin herself comfortable in tiny places in the driftwood. but will she heal 100%?! and will the scratches disapear cuz its screwin up her patterns...

They should heal just fine. I've had some fish get some nasty cuts and they've seemed to heal no problem without any scarring that i can see at least.
But she will probably continually cut herself on the driftwood if shes doing it now...

ok good to know... but dont worry i moved the drifwood in a way that she cant scratch herself. cuz she use to go under it and now she cant cuz i filled the hole wit gravel... she seems fine for now, she moved to another driftwood and shes chilling on the top part of it.
another question... shes pretty small for now so she doesnt have problem hiding. wat happens when she gets a lot bigger?! wat do i have to get?!

Larger driftwood, or a large plastic/stone cave... when she gets larger, she has less reason to hide also, so a large smooth stone or a piece of driftwood she can lay next to can work just fine...
