i have one at about 5" in with an 8" oscar a 5" pbass a 3.5" gold saum a 4.5" green texas x jd and a couple fancy plecs and it does just fine. it hides out when the lights are on and therefore is rarely seen. i didn't see the whole fish from the day i got him until a couple of months later when i rearranged the tank. he was living in a depression he had dug under a large piece of holey rock. i was worried he wasn't eating but that fear was put to rest when i pulled out his rock and saw he had grown about 2" in 2 months and had a big pot belly! very nice looking fish if you don't mind rarely getting to see them. make sure it has somewhere to hide when the lights are on both so they can avoid the light and so this softer skinned fish can hide from the cichlids' agression if necessary. i don't know what mine eats, but my fish get fed sinking wafers, blood worms, and carnivore pellets and they are supposed to take feeders as well. and they make a cool sound too!
