My LFS just got in some 5 inch Jaguar Catfish ,Liosomadoras oncinus

They are an amazing looking fish with beautiful coloring and that protruding lower jaw. Fishbase lists them at maxing at 8 inches. I am interested albeit concerned about their need for slightly acidic water. Has anyone kept these??? If so with what tankmates and water conditions??

Thanks

They never come out. I wouldnt suggest getting them they are like a pet rock that you have to feed. Yes they look nice but you wont get to see them. and if you make it so that you can see them then the fish will stress out.

Mine comes out to eat. Frozen thawed blood worms and brine shrimp. But does hide too.
As to the water. I do small changes on that tank so as not to kill him with my hard nasty water.

Very reclusive as are all driftwood catfish. Get around 8 inches long, and can swallow surprisingly large tankmates. Normally peaceful, although it may not tolerate other fish nosing into the crevice in which it crams itself. Easily kept in a community with medium sized (>3.5 inches) fish.

My jaguar lives with a 12" RTC, a 11" tsn, a 9" river cat, a 10" clown knife four large kissing gourami, one normal gourami, a parrot fish and they all seem to get along fine. I thought the rtc would make a meal of the little guy but they seem to get along fine. The jaguar is about 5" and swims around and on occasion sits right in front of my rtc. So as far as compatibillity I guess it is at your discretion.

I've kept them under neutral to slightly alkaline conditions w/ no problems. As others have indicated, they are quite nocturnal and will hide when the lights are on.
