Thank you for your input. I will look into other possible tank mates.I wouldn't try it, maybe a parachromis loisellei would be better. Jaguars just get so big, a large male probably won't want to share a 180. And your other fish are no where near the aggression level, you basically have the least aggressive of the large cichlids, and want to put one of the most aggressive in there. I don't think it'll end well for the Oscar, severum, and jack.

Thank you for your response. Ended up giving my other cichlids to a buddy and picked up male jag. So I will probably just get a female jag and maybe a pleco for the 180 and leave it at that.I get the impression you want to keep a jag right? If so it would work better long term if you were to avoid other territorial cichlids as they with long term either end up dead or injured. Things like plecos and faster large fish can work. I currently have a gibbiceps and 2 banded leporinus in with my jag in a 180gallon but have had no success keeping him with other cichlids.
I took advice from some people and am doing a jag pair maybe pleco tank only. My 180 is not big enough for anything else because the Jag will eventually kill everything. From what I have seen the only way to have a jag with other cichlids is if it is a female or you have a huge tank for a male. But I am new to Jags and you can wait for far more experienced keepers to chime in.I have had similar issues with my jag, and am not sure what to do. I currently have a silver arowana (10 inches), jaguar cichlid (4-5 inches), 1 pleco (10 inches) in my 125 gallon tank. Over the last month or so my jag has killed a 4 inch flowerhorn as well as a 5-6 inch jack dempsey. I have tried to move the decorations, I have tried the "time out" and nothing seems to have worked. However if possible I would like to have some other activity in the tank other than 3 fish. I tried adding 6 clown loaches (4-5 inches) last Thursday and lost one over the weekend which looked to be from that same jag. I also saw 2 scales from the arowana on the bottom of the tank. (YIKES!) I want to avoid losing the other 5 loaches as well as the arowana.
Is this particular Jag just very aggressive and claiming his ground? Would adding some schooling fish to distract him help or would the Jag need to be removed to save the others?
If your jag is male it will more than fill your 125 gal, 16 inch jags make tanks look tiny, they have a reputation for being aggressive for good reason.I have had similar issues with my jag, and am not sure what to do.
