My dream fish is a jaguar cichlid but I have never been able to keep one because my tank was always too small. Now I have a big tank and my LFS is ordering me one in. I want to know how people have successfully cared for their Jag. I have been researching online and heard a lot of the same stuff. Everybody is different and has different tank setups. What has worked best for you guys? Also what is their average growth rate?

What size are we talking? some people call 55 gallon big..
I ask this because tank size determines whether you could just keep the Jag by himself or add other fish with him.
Growth rates of my own Jags has always been fast. About an inch to 1,5 inch a month till they hit 8-9 inch.

85 gallons. It's not for life but by the time it grows too big I will have a bigger tank. It will only be 1-2" long.
