So last Sunday I treated my 125 gallon tank that houses 1 7" male jaguar cichlid (no tankmates) with tetra parasite guard because I suspected parasites as he was having little spasms and was flashing occasionally. Did a 25% water change on Tuesday, dosed again, and did another 25% water change on Thursday and everything seemed ok. Now he's refusing to eat his NLS pellets, he's still flashing, and he has a white cotton growth on 1 of his fins. Any suggestions as to what I should do? He did eat some krill yesterday without problems, he just has been spitting out the pellets. But as far as the cotton growth goes, should I start treating the tank ASAP or just keep up on the water changes and hope it goes away on its own?

Can you post your water parameters? Ammonia, Nitrites, Nitrates, Ph, Gh if available and temperature?

Pull the carbon, use melafix and quick cure, just had the same problem with my devil and Midas, about two days after treating the water put the carbon back in, then a day or two after that do a water change

And i forgot to mention aquarium salt, use the appropriate amount for your size aquarium

As of last night before I did a 25% change, everything seemed ok...
Ammonia- 0
Nitrite- 0
Nitrate- 10
PH- 8.2
Temp- 80

Got home from work and he's got 2 more very small cotton looking growths on his other fin... haven't seen him flashing or rubbing anymore though

I actually have melafix, pimafix, quick cure, and aquarium salt on hand right now. How many times would u recommend treating with the melafix, quick cure, and aquarium salt? Just once? And then do like u said and put the carbon back in after 2 days and then do a water change in another 2 days?

You could treat with the quick cure as per instructions on the bottle and add 1 tablespoon of aquarium salt per 5 gallons of water. Qiuck is a combination of Meth blue & formalin. One thing to remember is do not dose with an hour after using a water conditioner as it will reduce the effectiveness of the meth blue. Meth blue can also be hard on BB so keep and eye on your water perameters during treatment.
