I had a good time watching this pair get to know each other, this is the end of Day 2. Day 1 was just them swimming together playing nice, morning of Day 2 started with him hiding behind the standpipe, his scales all over the bottom and the female guarding a rock.
The female was ready to go that night, ovipositor fully extended; she never did get him to follow her spawning pattern across the rocks. In his defense, he's a little blind and has probably never spawned before. I rescued him a little over a month and a half ago with ich and a nasty bacterial infection that had clouded over and swollen his eyes (I thought then that he might lose one). We've had the female for about 4 years and have had a few good spawns out of her (sadly, with our Carpintis and Midas).
Anyhow, enjoy:

If you look closely, contrasted by the rock in the background of the pic you can see her ovipositor clearly.

At the end of the night, this was how she looked at me as I said goodnight. Very frustrated girl.

From all this courting, I thought I was going to get a spawn but I think he's just not got the idea yet.
