so soon i will be purchasing a 125 galon tank and want a breeding pair of jags but they are unsexed on the website i am purchasing them from so should i order 2 and hope and pray i dont get two males or just purchase 1 and see if i get a male any thoughts
I would call local pet stores and ask if they sell Jags. If they say yes I would give them your phone number. I know most people buy several and pic the two they like. Then they give away the rest.

I would recommend getting a group of around 6 juveniles and grow them out and keep a pair that natural forms. If you just buy two and they happen to be male and female does not mean they will be a compatible pair.
Starting with a group forms a stronger bond from the competition of males for females and females for males.
Once you get a pair don’t move the others on too quickly though as this can break the bond. I’d suggest letting them spawn a few times first then removing the others.Defending their spawn together will help to strengthen their bond.
In the long run a 125G will not be large enough to house a pair of Managuense where the male has the potential to reach 24inches, however generally smaller in aquaria.
