I have a Jaguar Cichlid in a 55 Gallon Aquarium by itself. It is about 7 inches long. How long can I leave it in this aquarium? I have had this fish since it was a baby in this aquarium for about a year. I know it will eventually need a 125 or bigger but I cant afford it right now. Also how long does it take for these fish to reach adult size?

Your only issue is the width of the 55. IMO upgrade ASAP but you can still hold out a bit. No more than 9in. From what I know, Jags will get full size in about a year and a half. I'll bet if you upgrade you'll see a bit of a growth spurt.

So a 125 will be fine for a single fish? I have done some research on this fish of course after I bought it and the tank. Do they really live for 15 years.

They grow about 1" a month if fed well and if water changes are frequent. I've seen max sizes of 16" in 2 years!!

IMO a 125 would be good for a pair for life. Also they keep growing thru out there life. It will take a few years depending on variables with the care and diet to reach the larger sizes you see if not longer. The monster males only get 16" give or take. I would upgrade as soon as you can. Cut back feeding to slow its growth as well.

I take really good care of the fish I just dont want to stunt its growth or anything. I had an algae eater in there but it killed it. I do water changes once a week and clean the whole tank once a month. I am going to buy a 125 as soon as I can. Is it normal that my fish is only 7 inches long I have had it for almost a year?

Depends one water quality, what you feed them and how often you feed them. My pair has not grown real fast in my opinion.....maybe from 6" for the male to 13" in 2 years.

Well I have a cave made out of rocks and I Move everything out and srub the sides for algae. I have never done more then a 50% water change.
