Jaguar Cichlid Substrate

I have a Jag and I have Gravel for a Substrate and I was thinking of changing to Sand. Do Jags Like Sand or do they prefer Gravel?

they prefer gravel all the way. i have 2 mating pair of jags and they never liked the sand because they love to dig

I don't think they'll really care. They'll move whichever you use anyways.

Thanks I was thinking the Sand would look better but I want to do whats best for the fish.

I USE 3 M COLORQUARTZ T GRADE AND THE S GRADE. MY HONDURAN JAG TRIO AND MY JAGUAR PAIR LOVE IT AS DO ALL MY PARACHROMIS. THEY DIG IN IT AND MAKE IT AS THEY WISH SEEMS TO MEE ITS EASIER TO CLEAN TOO AS ITS HEAVIER THEN SAND SO IT DOESNT GET SUCKED UP. IN NATURE ITS NOT GRAVEL ON THE BOTTOM OF THE RIVER JUST STONES AND SAND FROM WHAT IVE SEEN. HOWEVER TO EACH HIS OWN ITS ALL ABOUT WHAT YOU WANT YOUR TANK TO LOOK LIKE. Just be careful with sand I like it too but I wiped out two filters before I figured out what I was doing wrong it will eat up an impeller like right now if it gets in there

My Jag loves the sand, he moves it from one end of the tank to the other and then back again, half fish half bulldozer I think!

I'm not too worried about the sand getting into the filter because I have cut the intakes short and the Eheim 2080 has a pre filter tray that catches all debris anyway!
