I raised the temp from 82 to 86 over about 24 - 36hour period, brought the salinity to 006 so low end brackish.

When you guys say it gets worse before it gets better can you please describe? My jag will sometimes lay on the bottom leaning against the glass. This started about 12hours into treatment. Is this normal? I have performed a 50% water change aswell.

Maybe this pic will help, hes not breathing heavy. He will follow me with his eyes. When i first noticed the ick it didnt look to bad and it still does not. But 12hours after salinity and temp change hes laying on the bottom. However randomly he gets up like he was just napping and goes for a cruise. Sometimes maintaining a normal swimming pattern for 10-15 mins. Then slowly goes back to the bottom... Any ideas? Is this something more serious that has just brought the ick on?

Sent the girlfriend to the fish store with a jar of water and it tested perfect. I work nights and just got home, he hasnt gotten any worse except i can see a tiny bit of cloudy eye comming on.

Can anyone help me? Im beginning to think the ick was just an outbreak from being ill/stressed with something more serious.

It is possibile the ich was just caused by his weakened immune system. It is etreamly important to keep the water extreamly clean during treatment. In this instance the raised temperature could have caused a proliferation of bacteria if there was an already present infection. While increased temperature will accelerate the life cycle of the ich and facilatate the recovery process it will unfortunatly have the opposit effect if your dealing with a bacterial infection as well.

I would treat for the bacteria 1st start by bringing the temp back down to 80.

Most of the bacterial infections that present these types of symptoms are gram-negative and respond pretty quickly to anti-biotics such as Maracyn 2. You can also keep using the salt during treatment with this medacation for the ich and it's other therapudic benifits. Do a large water change befor starting treatment and follow the instructions on the package.

I hope this helps.
