Hi guys
I got 2 baby jag cichlids yesterday (16-3-14).
They are currently about 2 inches long and in a 10 gal tank.
I tried feeding them today(17-3-14) but they refused to eat.
I tried hikari cichlid staple and cichlid gold(sinking) but they just didnt eat em.
Is it too early for me to get worried about them not eating?
And if so what can i do to make sure they eat ?
I have a 55 gal tank with a blood parrot which isnt really the killing type but has managed to take a good nip out of my other cichlids in my 90 gal.
Could the size of the tank have anything to do with them not eating ?
Any advice would be helpful.
Thank you in advance.

Let them settle in they'll eat eventually , try them on bloodworm or krill see if they take that rather than pellets

Maybe try nls small sinking pellets or they might be used to flake food at that size

yea i just got 2 that are about 3/4 inch and they are eating flakes and a few blood worms, also in a ten gallon. but the first day i put them in the tank they killed the 2 guppys i had in there :woot:

Mine currently eat frozen mysis shrimp and bloodworms the most... will also eat cut tilapia, flakes and omega one sinking pellets...they mainly go after the pellets a minute or so after they have been in the water and have softened up some...the main thing as already stated is to give them time to settle in.....

Hi, welcome/
They take time, to acclimate to a new environment and different food source.

Be careful not to overfeed them if you dont see them eating. They will get to the food as they churn through the substrate. My male (10") is a lot pickier than the 1" smaller, female.

I have had to separate them cuz I made the mistake of removing all of their eggs from the last spawning,, only to learn that throws them off their cycle. So I have them separated atm.. but both doing very well:

It's wild how their colors change..
Look at the pre-spawn coloration: http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/album.php?albumid=7158
*The female in this images are not the same one I kept. I got him a wc mate bc he is also wc.
The store-bought one are just as beautiful, in most cases.

Good luck
