i just bought a jaguar cichlid today.... hes about 6 inches long. can anybody give me any pointers on the species. i currently have him in a 75 gallon breeder tank with a channel catfish and a black belt cichlid.
Their care is much like the other big cichlids. Good filtration, clean water, vaired diet, and room for territories.
It should be ok with the blackbelt for a while, but if you plan on keeping them together you'll need a much larger tank. I've got a Jag that is about 15" that lives with a vieja, but it definately has his "space".
I'm sure you already know, but you're going to need a huge tank for that channel cat
Welcome to MFK!
I had one that was about 9" He pretty much destroyed my 11" Walking Catfish that was in the tank. I just bought an Adonis to go in the tank with them the day before. I gave him up because I didn't like the way he was eyballing his new now/then tankmate. They can be a bit vicious...ok, REALLY VICIOUS, so becareful of tankmate selection.
