I have a 10' male jag that I found next to the bottom plate of the stand I built from 2X4's dried up and nearly dead. I came home after working all day and I couldnt find him. I have a 125 that is completly wide open except for 2 extremely large flower pots no tankmates and when I didnt see him I figured he was hiding but to my surprise he was nowhere in the tank so I scanned the base of the stand and he was there. I didnt see any movement and just when I thought he was gone I picked him up and the gils barely flared and his dorsal slid up slightly so I immidiatly reacted by putting him in the tank and doing some revival to run water thru his gils and he took off after two pumps and instantly went upside down but righted himself shortly after. After this he would not allow me to grab him to revive so I thought he might be in good shape. Now he laid upright fins down obviasly stressed and then next time I walked by he moved far away and stayed there again. His eyes appear to be moist however his body was completly dry and crusty. Im not sure what to do as this has never happened to me nor have I heard of such an experiance. I figured I should salt a bit as he appears to have no slime coating so I moved him into a 10. (filter&air pump) He has also not made an effort to eat.

I have a decently stocked medicine cabinet as well.

Is there anything else I should still do while its early?
Is there anything you would recommend me not to do that I have or have not yet done.

All pet stores are closed due to the holiday so MFK is my only option. Thanks Any advice is appreciated.

First off, i would not have moved him once a placed him into the 125. Just make sure he is up-right. Dont do any major water changes, just leave the tank alone

Yeah I don't think there is much you can do, just keep checking on him. You may find he gets problems later due to the stress. Don't do anything that may stress im more..
Let us know how you get on!
A few days ago I found a young guppy that had got stuck in the bag of a new fish I added. My girlfriend lifted the bad out the sink many hours later and spotted him, we put him back in and he has been fine.

Well guys it's been a few days and he's in good shape. I had him swallowing cichlid pellets the morning after the ordeal with the same force he always had. Hes pretty much back to normal except for one thing which I believe to be only because of the change in tank size. Thanks MFK's

there have been several times over the years where I have found a "dead" fish on the floor, only to see him come back to life once I plopped him in the tank . . .

it's always worth a try . . .

just curious, why don't you cover the tank?

It was covered, when i got back the cover was inside the tank. I have no center transim (correct word?) in my tank so I have a thin piece of plexi in the center for my marineland covers and when I pull them forward to access the rear of the tank they slide off the border or center piece and fall in so when I mess with it Im careful. I suppose he may have hit it because he is very rambunctious. I fed him in the morning before I left and then passed out at my girlfriends and then came home after work and found him. When he gets hungry he acts like a crazy person on Speed. So I got thicker plexi to allow for more movement in my covers.

On a side note, since I have you guys here I was wondering why hes so skittish when I come around and will only eat pellets and always finds it neccesary to kill and not eat feeders (when I seldomly feed them) he prefurs ripping them inhalf. I came home one day and gave him a few feeders and he wouldnt touch them and I turned on the lights on my other tank and fed them. When I got back he chopped the feeders all in half.

don't know much about jags, but maybe the tank is too open?

he has no tankmates - - which is understandable - - and only two flowerpots; maybe you could add a big piece of driftwood in the middle?

Glad to hear he is on the mends. I am not surprised he is skittish after that ordeal, he is probably stressed in a big way. Watch out for problems other then next month as the stress leaves them with a low immune system.
