hi, here's a little update on my jaguar family. the fry are doing well - getting fat on frozen baby brine and probably outgrown rotifers. i set up a 10 gallon grow out tank for the fry today and proceeded to siphon them out. the parents probably suspected something, but since the siphon tube was clear it wasn't as obvious why their children were disappearing at the rate of about 12/minute :grinno: . there are around 20 left in the tank with the parents (still divided after dad decided to smack mom around a bit last week! :screwy: )
in any case, long story short about 3 hours after 95% of the fry were removed the male and female started courting again across the divider. i think i'm going to end up separating them for a while (don't need anymore baby jags!).
also in the pictures is my 8" TL male midas i got from house64. i've christened him 'captain insano' since he is by far the craziest fish of the bunch. he tries to bite me every time i feed him, or do something near the tanks. he jumps clear out of the water to get a chomp when i'm adjusting the heater etc. he's nuts. :headbang2 he's a bit shy now that there's a huge light shining over the head, but you never know... enjoy the pictures.

The female is gonna grow super slow if you let them keep breeding at that size. XP Let her put some size on first. How big are they btw, lol. They looked around the 4" mark to me.

What is with the cloudy midas water? your jags are nice. What are your plans for the fry?

wow, I didn't know they spawned at such a small size! I was surprised when sinisterkisses GT's spawned at such a small size too. :nilly:

nice little family ;)

awesome stuff.....i never thought bout syphoning fry!!!! that's a mad idea!!! never using a net again....
