Can anybody help me out, i’ve got 2 Parachromis Managuensis (still small ones around 7 inches) which are spawning a lot. They are in a 100G tank on their own, no other tank mates. The last 4 times the eggs made it to wigglers, but every time they started free swimming they were gone within 24 hours, with a batch left dead on the tank bottom as well.

once eggs are laid I change 20-25% water each other day (the last 2 times).
Why do the free swimmers die? I’m trying to raise some fry but in this way it’s nog going to happen.

are the parents maybe still to young and still learning how to raise fry?
can I remove the parents before the wigglers are beginning to swim?

Typically once they are free swimming they need to eat. What do you have to offer as food?
I have been lucky as most everything ive bred on purpose or accident have eaten prepared foods or I was ready with fresh hatched baby brine. Some would not though the maroon clowns wouldnt eat anything but live. Which is why I started in on the brine shrimp hatchery. The talbots damsels preferred live also but would eat most anything. The filamented barbs I accidentally raised would eat anything as would the mbuna for fresh water fish I have had experience with.
I have also fed the babies at least twice a day. They need alot of food, its hard being a baby fish.
How are the adults? Good parents or not so much? May need a breeding tank for the babies. Just some coffee thoughts on your situation.

Jaguars aren’t picky on food, I hope the fry will accept powdered fry food.
I can try moving them to a breeding tank in their own water, but I’m afraid they are still too young to separate them from the parents. When wigglers the parents are continuously collecting them and garding them

I agree with twentyleagues twentyleagues soon as fry absorb their egg sac they will need food. Also would like to add during the water changes are you adding dechlorinator?

I agree about getting constant food to fry, with free swimming cichlid fry, I usually feed 4-5 times per day, and allow lots of algae to grow for constant grazing.
If the parents were seen eating fry, I'd siphon some out, but if they are found dead in the substrate, that doesn't sound a likely scenario.
Are you adding dechlor with each water change?
Are you matching tap and tank temp?

I divide dechlorinator and do match water temperature. There is some algae in the tank, not much though.

I can try skipping the water changes next time, but the first few times i didn’t do that as well. But I can try again

Just increase the lighting schedule or intensity to grow more algae. If you are watching parameters then you can decide if you can/should skip water changes.
So were babies eaten or found dead?

Divide should have been “do use”
Damn autocorrect ;-)

I found dead babies, but that were certainly not all of them. I don’t know if the parents ate them when still alive
