Got this Jag just about a year ago from a fellow cichlid club member. He was just a little 3-4" guy at the time but is really starting to turn into a little tank now. Started feeding him cooked shrimp once per week over the past few months and since then he's putting on a lot of thickness now. Still has some growing to do but he's probably touching 10" now.

Good looking jag S Steve_C . I love the ones with the attitude and gill flaring.

He has a good attitude, always think jags can be a bit hit and miss personality wise.

Thanks. Yeah he's a lot of fun and full of personality. Whenever anyone comes over they always get a kick out of how he paces all across the tank flaring his gills at anyone that walks near his tank. Truth is though he's all bark and no bite. He acts all tough but soon as I reach into his tank to do any maintenance he runs and hides under his log like a big sissy. Then soon as I take my hands out he comes flying back out acting all tough again lol

That can be a good thing, having a 16 inch jag trying to take chunks out your hand every time your doing maintenance would get annoying after a while for a guess.

good looking boy, great job with him. as every one knows love me some jags

Why do you cook the shrimp before feeding?

I personally feed super freeze dried krill soaked in boyds once a week night before water change due to the high raw protein content. no ideal for cooked cept to maybe sanitize. freeze dried not a problem and get to hydrate with nutrients.

I don't "cook" it, you guys must have thought I was fryin him up shrimp with a side of cocktail sauce I bet :D
The shrimp you buy from the supermarket freezer section is just called "cooked/peeled" shrimp. I buy it, thaw it a few pieces at a time, then slice it into pieces and feed it to him. Basically its the same thing you buy at fish shops in frozen krill packs only this way you get a lot more for a lot less cash.
