So Ive had my jag since October 14 since then she's only grown ~2"! This doesn't seem right do you think she was stunted at the store? Her batch was in there for a long time even 4 months after I bought this one and the stores a pretty bad place. She was in my 29g for approx 4 months and for the first two only ate flakes then she was eating blood worms and now has been eating new life spectrum large fish and hikari floating predator pellets for the last month and put her in the 70 a month ago. So to me this growth doesn't seem right but I could be wrong so please help! Sorry for the ramble trying to tell the specifics to help get the answer quicker thanks!

My jag had the same growth, very slow about half an inch a month. I feed bloodworms an NLS pellets.

Hi,

How big is the jag now ?

Females from my experience are somewhat slower than the males for various reasons. The female at a certain point will start putting energy into producing eggs rather than growing.

There is a fair chance if you say the LFS wasnt that great they were not fed properly and hence they were malnourished and it will take a while for the fish to recover. i see a lot of jeuvinle cichlids with sunken bellys etc as they are not fed enough in the stores.

Im sure the fish will be fine and still get to a substantial size eventually.

How often do you do water changes? I do a 20%-40% change every other day, and (when I had managuense) they grew like weeds.
I find water changes to be a much more significant factor than the type food.
I fed generic trout and bluegill pellets from the local feed store.
Mine went from 1" to over 12" male, 9"female in a year.

Oops I forgot to mention the size I got her at 2" and now she's 4-4.5"

I also do a 25% water change weekly and another 10% randomly when I have time.

I've had my jag for almost 8 months, and she is 5 inches. She was 2 inches when I got her. The water is pristine, twice a week water changes and plenty of filtration. She eats good feeders once a week mealworms as a treat. Just under half an inch a month, wasn't what I was expecting. Maybe it is common since you guys have the same experiences.
