I have had a male Jag for over 2 years now, and he is only about 10" long. What has been your experience with Jag growth rates for you other Jag owners out there.

BTW he is definately a male (has bred several times with a smaller female Jag), has been kept in a 125gal. 6ft long tank most of the time with the 5" female Jag and 2 oscars (10" and 11").

I keep up with the water changes (50% every 7-10 days), and feed Hikari pellets and FD krill, also occasional earth worms. I feed about once a day.

At his current size and age, does he have more growing to do? Or is he about maxed out?

Yeah, I've heard males can get to 20".

Its just that 2 years to get to barely 10" (including tail) seems long to me. I was wondering what other Jag owners have experienced.

No so :screwy: perhaps, eh?

Anyone else? Perhaps someone who has a Jag themselves that they have raised from a wee one.

in captivity male jaguars get to 16", in the wild they get to 22", in my experence with jags, mine grew at a slow rate, but they did grow. it hasn't taken to long to get mine to 13", but the growth rate of the fish, depends on, feeding, tank size, water quality, and esspetially genetics, some fish grow fast, some slow.

females grow smaller than the malles i think to 12"? in captivity!

yeah about 11-13"

i have female that has grown maybe 3 inches since october, she's about 9 inches now

and i have a juvi that was 1" when i got him in january, he's 4 inches now

IME they slow down considerably as they start to reach the 6" 7" 8" mark..

I bought a 5" male back in 10/2006. The one fish that I want to get big fast, he is growing real slow, if you ask me. He is in a 180 with two other CA's, 5 Silver Dollars and a Silver Aro. He eats whatever drops in the tank. Hikari Gold, H. Carnivour, Freeze dried crickets and occasional frozen bloodworms. He looks like he has only grown at the most an inch since then.
