how big is the tank? it might be a territory issue or it could be male and female pairin up if you put some pics up it would be easeir to tell

hi ive just joined the site and and was looking for info on jags and noticed the pic of your van, very cool mate. ive got a hz van ps mines not as tidy as yours. just wondering how many varieties of jags there are. mine is about 5 inch and is showing gold and pink on his body and blue on his fins but still has some of the black markings looks very cool. any info would be appreciated. thanks

hey cheers about the van i dont have it anymore but i miss it,

but to the jags there are a few different varients from what i understand they are just from different parts of a rivers/lakes which gives them the slightly different patterns (someone help me out if im wrong) but i think we only have the one varient in australia, id say you would have one like mine.

ok but the thing that is odd to me is that the larger jag looks like a male in pattern and the smaller one is darker but has more vertical stripes going down its body. and the larger one also dug a hole down to a slate rock that is connected to one of my branchs and is now rubbing its body up against it.... laying eggs? as in girl or making a nest like male convicts do. im talkin he moved about 1.5" of gravel out of a 3 inch radius hole in the back of my tank it looks cool though. so from hearing this is the larger one in a breeding status now?

id say that its a male and female from what you've said and it sounds like you will have fry soon my spawn bout every 3 weeks and then they eat them or sometimes my bass does lol :) they will lay on that piece of slate that you have in there

my bigger jag that made the hole is in the hole constantly rubbing the slate with its private
and swimming around with its private out and the small one too and they look different. there is about a half inch difference and also i thought it was weird because smaller one and the oscar that is larger than them fights with the larger and their fins were tore up but they do not have torn fins anymore and they all have been peaceful for about 2 weeks now they just flare a little the jags do to the oscar but they dont flare at eachother but a lil bit but it looks more like a dance

do you mean a tube hanging out on the larger one? coz thats what the female does when shes goin to lay, if you could put some pics up i should be able to tell ya which is which and if i cant, someone else on this forum will, im thinking your bigger one might be a female without pics its hard to say
