Hi guys! I have a 160 gallon tank with a 20cm jag two 16cm green terrors (golden psams) and a 15cm albino Oscar.
The temperament is up and down a little but I feel I have finally got the right balance with hiding spots etc and aggression.
My jag is not eating the terrors and Oscar are wiping out the food right away he is not eating pellets (never has) he is not eating frozen food either and he usually does he was in the tank alone before and when I added the other new fish I also added 30 feeder fish to keep him busy and it worked as he has been really good but now he will not eat anything its been about 4 days now. the water is fine I do a water change and gravel vac every week. I am on top of tap safe measurements etc I did try to put a lot of food into the tank t see if he would get some but he goes near it then turns away like a fussy git! How can I rectify this? I am on the cusp of just buying lots of feeder fish quarantining them then keeping a supply in the tank for him. Any ideas?

You could try buying a tank divider during feeding or you could get a pair of feeding tongs

I have a divider he didn't like being away from the other fish there was a spike of aggression when I took it out. Feeding tongs would work but he is very shy. I do not know what to do?

Either remove the other fish, divide them or just wait him out to get more aggressive with feeding. He's not hungry enough to eat faster. The stress of having other fish in the tank has reduced his hunger. A 20 cm jaguar will be fine for not eating 1 month. They don't get to eat every day at that size in the wild so it's not an issue for them. 4 days of not eating is nothing to worry about.

To be honest its pretty overstocked in my opinion. Green terrors can be pretty aggressive even if they are the smaller one.
But just my opinion, I wish u the best

Thanks for the advice. I am used to him eating 4 frozen cubes a day in two sittings so I was alarmed

Thanks for the advice! They are still well of being fully grown and I keep on top of water changes so its not to over stocked I am currently having a 8ft 360 gallon tank designed for me by a company that comes in and builds it in your home as I live in a third floor apartment and cannot fit a ready made one into my apartment! The aggression is fine its the Oscar that takes most of the food if honest. The green terrors are quite chilled and the tank boss is the jag but he does not bully the others. He was eating fine until I gave him feeder fish and now I am trying to get him to eat other food again to fit in with the other fish. Thanks for the help

Well there's several things that can affect his appetite or a combination of those things.
  1. he became sick from the feeder fish
  2. he's still full from the feeders
  3. he's too stressed to eat due to the new fish
  4. he's become picky.

I can tell you for certain that a placid/chill jag can still dominate 4 feet of an 8 foot aquarium to the point of not letting any of your other fish swim past half the aquarium's invisible boundary.

Hi! The feeders ran out sometime ago and he has never looked sick (not that I would know to look for) He could be stressed but he has not been attacking the other fish he had a scuffle with the Oscar and lost since then he has been shy. Its either fear or pickyness. Thanks for the support!
