I have an 8" Female Jag that I just purchased but the previous owner would not sell me his male so I was on the search for a male. I found about five 4" Jags at my LFS and the one was beating up all the other pretty bad and the guy told me he's pretty certain it's a male so I purchased it. Once I put "him" in the tank they're we're fine but now my female has been chasing it every once in a while. Could it just be because she is bigger or did I end up with another male :(

The top one appears to be male and the bottom one is harder to tell but looks like a female, I could be mistaken though.

Looks like it might be the other way around - male in first pic and female in second. Vent them and make sure. Looks like the lfs needs to feed their jags too. Lol

Sexing jaguars is the most confusing thing in the world lol. I spent an hour at the pet store just watching their behaviors. To try to pick a male. But then If they were all females one would be dominant.

Behavior is not a good marker for sexing any fish. Some females are dominant and others aren't.

It's still pretty hard to tell. The 2 new pickups are pretty small and they need to eat. Feed them well over the next week or so and then see if you can vent all 3. Again it's the only way to be sure.

Jaguars have always been one of my favorite new world cichlids

I agree with #3, and they both look very malnourished, it is very important to give juvenile specimens (under 6") of large growing cichlids 40% + protein diets and multiple daily feedings. I highly recommend Hikari Bio Gold Plus in addition to raw shrimp, beefheart, and earth/trout worms.

Right now I'm down to two juvies who are fine together and they get hikari gold pellets and beef heart. I've only had them for 2 days so the pet store was feeding them well at all.
