hey all I got it like 2 weeks ago and it is only like 2 inches. It was in the tank with a full grown pink convict and was chasing him all over the place so I removed the convict 2 days ago. Since i removed him the jag has been hiding all day. I hate fish that do that and was told Jags don't and that is why i got one. Is there something I can do to get him to come out or are they naturally like that??? if they hide all the time someone is going back to the pet store.

Give him some dithers like danios or something. Once they get bigger they wont hide as much, but that goes for pretty much any fish. He may just need some more time to settle in.

Remember he is a predator and lives around predators in the wild. Hiding is a survival technique (when you are little stay out of site or get eaten). Get him some dithers so he will feel more comfortable and after he grows a bit and settles in a bit more he'll more than likely be all over the tank:D

Dont worry about it. He'll come out soon. Just give him some time.

Have you checked your water? I had one do that a few years ago when I checked the water it was all over the shop. But i would say they do tend to hide when small it is a instinct to survive remember it’s a fish eat fish world I assure you green terrors red devils etc etc all hide when small when they get bigger is when they get balls

good point. Whenever a fish's behavior changes, its good to check parameters. Even if you dont think thats the cause.

I had a Jag a little while ago. Same thing. He hid all day long. He was about 6" when I got rid of him and he was still doin it. My friend has one who has never hid. Can't label fish. Every personality is different.

a lot of fishes do the same
they need time to adjust the new environment

ditcher fishes will help alot faster

Like everyone else said. . . give him some time to put on some size and he'll be out so much you'll get sick of looking at him :grinyes:
