Hello, I have a single Jag that is acting like it is trying to spawn. He has cleared a space for egg laying, and is acting extremely aggressive.

I tried to sex "him" and checked out his vent which looks like: (o O) as posted in the sticky as a female... but the colors are bright with lots of blues and purples in the fins... Can color determine the sex at all? or is the vent a more accurate telling?

And, If he or she is trying to spawn, should I find it a mate? or leave it be and maybe the aggression will stop?

I am afraid of finding a mate due to the fact that my guy is very aggressive right now, and I don't want to lose a female to an upset male... or vise versa.

Any info would be greatly appreciated! I will try to get a pic of him or her to put up here for possibly more clarity. thanks!

i watched your video. i think he wants to mate with you:ROFL::ROFL:. anyway it deff looks male to me its normal for a jag to dig out rocks if thats what hes doing but ya you should get it a mate if you have room.

Lol... Well Im not into fish... haha...:naughty: but yea I will see if I can find him a mate!! Thanks for the reply. :D
 
Well I went around asking and everyone thinks he is a male, but I cant find him a GF...grr. I am going to get a tank divider tho so he cant kill her when I finally find one. oh boy... babies!
 
its perfectly natural for jags to dig. my juvie dug a pit under a piece of driftwood and thats his favorite spot
