Anyone else noticed that jaguars tend to throw tantrums at random? Mine tends to throw one if you stand next to the tank too long and don't feed him/don't feed what he wants.

What sets everyone elses jaguars off?

Jags aren't the only one that do this, IMO he considers the place your standing as his terratory and he wants you gone. Feeding him gets his mind off the fact he wants you away from his turf, once your no longer feeding him he has no further tolerance for you or need for your presents.

:iagree: my oscar used to do the same thing though. If I did not feed him what he wanted (did not like pellets, but would eat them) or if I redid his tank in a manner not pleasing to him he would throw a fit.

lol, nice. Figured a fish that was that way would be more intolerant of tankmates

ugh my jag was horrible before i moved him. he had tantrums constantly. upturned plants, gravel spit out of the tank, broken decorations, heaters drug around, filter intakes ripped off. he hates everyone but his girlfriend and earned his own tank because of it. its more or less because they are always makin babies. i figure if they wasn't breeding it wouldn't be as bad. but hes actually people friendly. there was this one time i tried to feed him some freeze dried sea weed. yea bad idea. he ate it, spit it right back out and then proceeded to splash my flat screen and entertainment center from across the room. i still dont know how he got so good at aiming. ugh my fish are worse than kids.

EVERYTHING sets my Jag off. He's been an ornery sob since birth. While a juvie, he pushed his brothers and sisters around. Then after pairing off, he would be ridiculously aggressive during spawning. He eventually turned on his mate, killing her. His aggression did not subside after being left alone, however. He flares and glass bangs at everyone, and goes COMPLETELY nuts if he sees the siphon or a net, even if its 30 feet across the room. He'll tolerate me during feeding, but as soon as he's swallowed the food, my hand had better not remain above HIS tank, or he'll come after it. Tank cleanings, needless to say, are always fun ;-)

Long story short, Cecropia, that's totally normal Jag behavior. I've found them to get more aggressive as they grow larger, so the tantrums will probably become more and more frequent.

My jags was never aggressive. Until he killed his mate 8-10 months into spawning.... then his second and third mate.... now he's even intolerant of me. Plus if my cat comes into the room forget about it he practically jumps out of the tank to get at the cat( though all my larger CA's hate cats)

my jags are nothing like that. they come to the glass but thats for food. why are most so aggresive? does it come with age? mine arent even a year old yet.

need you tube vid!! lol...my FH used to do the same thing...also my oscar does that all the time..just now that i noticed..lo

My parrot will hike his fins up attack the back of the tank swim around very angry and fast, throw gravel all over the place and swim so fast and so mad. It's hilarious. I don't have a clue to what sets him off. But it's hilarious to watch.
