well, on an impulse buy at the LFS, i got a 3" jaguar for $10. i WAS going to put him in the 250 until i remembered i have a breeding devil/jack in there. the 55g convict tank....you guessed it, breeding. and both tanks are being beaten to hell by the breeding fish.

has anyone ever seen or heard of a jag being kept with rays?? i keep the tank cleaned, filtered and fed extremely well with live and frozen/prepared foods, and have generally had good luck with fish getting along in the past, as long as their purchased small and raised together. but ive also never kept jags before, so dont know what they tend to be like

actually hope he can stay here, the colors mix in nice with the FH/RD, BP and chocolate.

my god does this guy like to eat!!!!

he's taken atleast 10-15 nice size ghost shrimp in the last 30 mins he's been in the tank. straight from the bag he started picking at worms and shrimp. flared at the other fish a few times, and seems to pay no mind to the rays *knock on wood*

Am I safe to assume you're referring to a jaguar cichlid? (as opposed to the catfish)

I personally wouldn't trust him... To me the eyes of rays look like tasty little things to nip at. It might work, it might work for a while... There's no telling unless you're feeling lucky and try it out :)

yes, sorry. jaguar cichlid......

rays are kept @ higher temps or should be... most cichlids get more aggressive @ higher temps... to me its a bad idea...

now thats something ive never heard. my tanks at 82 and i notice no difference with my bp/fh, bp, or chocolate. then again, their not generally nasty fish.

decisions, decisions........

what kind of ray and how much did it cost..... is what you need to ask yourself...

cost and type are of no issue to me. im more concerned with them getting along. i worry about my 1" honey gourami that was only .50 being eaten. fish is a fish. but for what it matter, their retics that only cost $45 for my female and $60 for my male (different shops)

however, based on constant watch the last few days, im going to keep the jag with my rays for now. he chases the daylights out of everyone in the tank, except for the rays. he acts kinda like my Bolivian Rams did while they were in there, and just follows them around.

will move him into my 250g as soon as he shows any sign of aggression, where i know my devil will put him in place :)
