Hey all

Is it possible to have a good looking tank and keep Jaguars?? I love the natural 'biotope look', but in my local area the only tanks with Jag's in have to have all the decor taken out, and mostly no substrate.... just looks wrong to me.

Any pics to prove this theory wrong.....get em on here!! :D

I'm with you on that one. I'm going to give it a shot with my Dovii when I build their new tank, I'm coming up with possible solutions I'm going to implement in keeping the plants grounded.

let me share what I have learned about Parachromis dovii aka wolf cichlid ( the Jags BIG cousin)

the reason these tanks are typically bare is because they are excavators and powerful!

The dig gravel out from under big rocks and it can cause them to shift, drop, and hit the glass bottoms causing a lot of damage to the glass.

My dovii and probably spending 3 or 4 hours a day just moving stones when they aren't tending to the fry.

You'd be surprised how strong these fish are. Uprooting plants is childs play for them. I've seen my dovii and jag slide large rocks and flowerpots around their tanks with ease. I've long since given up trying to make their tanks look the way I want it to look.

live plants will be shreded all decor will be pushed or at least tried to be pushed by the jag so no medium rocks little ones or big ones only unless your tank is acrylic they like to pick them up and spit them out at the glass and busted tanks are a huge mess so use heavy objects or things that are weighed down. drift wood works we'll and useually can't crack glass or be pushed around

Yes this is possible my jags tank looks great. I mean he pushes alot of sand around but it eventually all rests flat again. He doesn't up root plants or anything the reason being I have live plants, but does move the rocks I have in with him around like a bulldozer but my tank still looks good. Heres the tank and the first shot of him is about 3 months ago (3") and the next is him 3 weeks ago 6.5" he is much bigger now 7.5" but I don't have any shots of him.

To keep fake plants in my tank I weight them down by siliconing glass gem/marbles to the base of the plants, this way he's free to redecorate as he chooses and my plants no longer float to the top. :)

not sure about it looking good but i think it passes and people say its nice
all plants are plastic
