Just wondering if anybody has had any personal experience with Jags and Piranhas together as tank mates. My 2 Jags are larger than the 2 Piranhas that I just added yesterday. Lookin' to pick your brains!:WHOA:

Well with this combo, I would say one of the two pairs will not last. What are the sizes of the fish and tank they are kept in?

The Jags are 3" and 4", the Piranhas are only about 1.5"
Currently the reside in a 30g and within the next couple of months are headed into a 120g (6' x 18" footprint)

Only the jags will be making the trip to the 120g.

they cannot coexist and even if they did your jags would always look really ugly with bit up fins.

if the tank was extremely large (Im talking something way too big for a house, like a public aquarium size) it has been done... There are a few tanks with shoals of Piranha, Arapiama gigas, huge cats tons of random cichlids, Discus and angel fish... Relative Biotope, but that tank also dwarfed Arapiamamans 50,000g aquarium.

SO I guess... Its it possible ? yes... Is it practical ? no.

Thanks for the input. I really love the Jags and am not to fond of having them all chewed up, but on the flip side the Piranhas are just awsome to watch. Looks like I might be getting a tank just for the Piranhas and maybe see about putting some Green Terrors in with the Jags

Good Idea, Pygo's should be with Pygo's only. If the Jags don't kill the Piranha while they are small then the Piranha will eventually eat the Jags. You definately should get another tank for the Red Belly's and save yourself the future hassle and disappointment.

It's also a great excuse to give my wife for getting another tank! She's down with the fish, but not as much as I am. But I am still working on her!

So far things are going well with them. The Piranhas just went through there first water change and gravel cleaning. Keeping them full of feeders and no troubles yet. Still considering a move to a new tank just for them, but we will see!
