A petsmart near my doctors office has 1 inch or less jaguars for about 1 dollar or a dollar fifty. Should I buy a few for my 75?

My 75 has a 6 inch nicaraguense, a 6 inch severum, a 4 inch salvini, a 5 inch jack dempsey, and a 3 inch green terror.

I know all grown up I won't be able to keep them all, but for so cheap is it possible they would survive in my tank and since they are the most aggressive and the smallest, could they be happy in there for a while?

I guess I should be asking about what age do they start to get real aggressive?

i think they will quickly end up as fish food if you put them inside there.
if you dont have the means to keep them alive then don't buy them. i don't think it's fair to put them inside a tank with much larger tank mates and hope that they will make it. there's no place for them to hide or to escape at the end of the day.

I'm not retarded, I'm just going to toss them in there and walk away, I have plenty of quarantine tanks.

I just want to know if small jaguars can get along with semi-aggressive larger cichlids (severums, jack dempseys, nicaraguense)? I mean eventually they will get aggressive but around what size?

I shoulda clarified, I just basically want to know if they are smaller than most of the other cichlids will that tone their aggresion down?

like for example a 4 inch jaguar with an 8 inch severum.

would that work?

No one called you retarded lol :chillpill: . Anyway, jags are pretty tough fish, but I wouldn't expect them to last long in your 75. I would buy a couple (great price, by the way, same size jags cost about $5 here) and grow them out till they're atleast 3 inches before introducing them to your 75 gallon. Good luck!

alright sorry, didn't mean to sound angry, but man this petsmart is the crowning glory of poopsmarts.

there were two obvious jaguars in the trimac side of the divider (btw all their fish were kept in little 6 gallon tanks, even the snooks/dempseys), they probably jumped over because the other 4 gallons was crowded with cons and other jaguars. I told the guy and he was like no those aren't the same they are a different color. So I asked him to catch me the biggest few jaguars he could find, because some were like a half an inch, and he just kept catching convicts and I kept tryin to explain to him that those weren't them and he just kept catching them again and again.

eventually I just convinced him that the jaguars in the trimac side were jags and not tri spotted cichlids and he was like o ok and then he bagged them up and just rubberbanded the top so it was in this floppy triangle shaped bag with no air in it.

I felt bad for the guy, but man I must have spent 15 minutes in there just to get these 2 little jags for "tree-fiddy".

they had a trimac that was about 2.5-3 inches though and I thought that was cool.

Now I put my jags in the divided 55 and these jags must just be rebels without a cause trying to cross any divider in front of them. Well this one wasn't so hard and they just swam through the egg crate diffuser divider and the flowerhorn was pissed. Thank god these jags were way meaner than the flowerhorn though (hes tiny) it was funny watching them flaring gills and stuff at such a micro size. So I quickly snatched them back up and put them in 2 plastic cups because that was the closest thing lying around. I brought them upstairs to their own 10 gallon with a cory and an upside down and when I took the lid off the 10 by the time I turned around one had already jumoped out of the cup.

I picked it back up, put it in, and he had a little fuzzy and a hair on his head. So I added a bunch of stress coat, did a quick little water change just to make sure they had good living conditions and put some aquarium salt in.

a lot of work just for these fingerlings, but I can already tell it is gonna be worth it...

Wow not even a day and already got a few stories heheh

Good luck with them :)

That's a great price. If you have the means to grow them out (and it seems you do), gor for it. The jag will catch up to the GT and the JD I wouldnt introduce them to the 75 until they were about 4"-5". Add them carfully too.

Yes I will be, after seeing how they take on that flowerhorn I am amazed.

I will probably go in stages, moving them from my 10 (when they are too big to cross through the holes in the divider) to the 55 and then from there to the 75.

My five/six inch female JD made quick work of my bargain Jag from Petsmart, bit him in half... I have had no luck putting in any fish that is not close to the size of my JD, she hammers anything that can fit in her mouth.
