a friend of mine requested for me to find any information on a fish called a japanese dragon koi. im not very knowledgable on koi so i came to the experts for help. i googled japanese dragon koi and ended up finding a bunch of info on tatoos and even looked it up on wikipedia but none of the types of koi had a name similar to a dragon koi. does this type of fish even exist? or does it go by another name? any information would be much appreciated

The only thing I can think of is an Arowana? for me to help id need a bit of info about the fish...maybe someone else knows. good luck

lol i thought the same thing when he told me that but he has owned arowanas in the past so i was lost after that

he said its also called koogi or kooni... the reason i think the names maybe mixed up is cause he heard of this type of koi when he was living in china and now that hes in the states he has no idea what they could be called

When dealers of koi advertise a "dragon-koi" they are describing the doitsu or mirror type of scaling, usually large plates over the head and neck region......the color is usually darker with lighter areas around the head and face meaking it appear dragon-like......its not really a highly sought after or expensive variety......but it is cool looking!!.....look on ebay, there are usually a few there.....

ooooooooooo alright then so they can be different varieties of koi? or can you only find this certain type of scaling on certain koi
