how can you tell apart a Japanese Koi from the others?

yes the jap's have stronger colour very strong in colour then the other lower grade koi's

Basically, the strength in depth, a lot of US koi are far cheaper than the jap versions. It's in the way they breed them/grow them in mud ponds to bring out better color, then everyone buys them and keeps them in crystal clear water that does nothing for the color. As daft as it sounds the worse water color the better the patterns get, rinse and repeat
