Hi all,

Since I visited Japanese sites with monster fish, I've been wondering how their tanks are so clear. Not only that, their tanks aren't that big and most often overstocked. I've seen their filtration and they don't use trickle in their sumps.

Can anyone give me some clues?

Thanks,
DD

honestly because they have some serious equipment that most peeps wont spend the money on the japenese love their hobbies and dedicate themselfs to perfection most certainly fish and aquascaping you want a rolls royce of tanks go to japan and do some shopping bring your platium card ..

I will bet that most of those tanks you are seeing are set up for photography and then torn back down. I bet most if not all of those ultra clean tanks have NOT been set up for any length of time before the pics are taken. There is no free lunch.

Saw the same thing when I was on the reef boards as well. Perfectly pristine reef tanks with very mature corals. Not an ouce of algae anywhere in the tank. Perfectly clean and white sand, pristine glass on all 4 viewing sides. Just not realistic IMO.

Nope . These tanks have been photographed in magazines, visited by fish clubs etc.. Bottom line is that theyve been around for a while. No tricks. Besides, the japanese always have tight quarters and they dont really have the luxury of so many tanks.

As for the reef boards, i really cant say since i dont frequent saltwater boards that much.

The Japanese are master fishkeepers, I'm not really sure how they do it either but it certainly gives me something to strive for! I think it justs takes a lot of dedication to your hobby and really trying to do the absolute best you can, take pride in your tanks!

I am sure they do daily water changes(sucking up debris) they do use trickle systems, along with big cannisters.

yeah, having lived in japan for a number of years...i'd have to admit, the japanese are masterfishkeepers,heh...every tank i'd see, even in lfs, were in excellent condiiton...made me want to go home and clean my tanks. they have just about everything you can think of going on in their tanks. i'd spend hours there just dreaming how i was gonna try and get my tanks like theirs. they have aqua equipment that i've never seen anywhere else. they do tend to overcrowd their tanks though.

interesting - I'd love to see some of these Jap tanks.

Does anyone have a link to any photos of Jap tanks?

I wonder who has a better tank, beat or miike.

Kurse - what kind of equipment? :)

They use sumps with the same volume or more as the main tank.
