Well I'm borderline giving up on these S. leucosticta as models for my photography, just shot about 200 photos and I'm only happy with a few of them.

They're so gorgeous from certain angles but can be so very plain and underwhelming from others.

Breeding female playing with another male while the poor dominant Male mouthbroods fry :(

Dominant male, very underwhelming photo.

Beta male, and Beta male with dominant males female again (right).

.. and here's a good indicator of why they're not so fun to shoot.

It's a swimming pile-on.

Half reasonable group shot.

.. and some Geophagus sp. "Araguaia Orange Head" photos from last night.

My other less angry but equally gorgeous dominant male.

Hope you enjoy, and apologies for the photo spam lately.

Good stuff. How are the fry doing?

Hard to say, the male definitely doesn't have a large mouthful. Unfortunately I didn't have my fry tanks ready to go, but next batch will be stripped and raised.

They are sucking in food so both the parents and fry are getting something. It's been 12 days now though so the parents are definitely doing a good job considering its their first batch. They swapped a few days ago but before that the female had been holding a very large mouthful for over a week.

REALLY NICE

Great pics japes!!!!!

I love the leucosticta, one of my favorite species.

I thought the same thing when mine first spawned, then the female released 400+ fry  But I don't think the male ever held over about 100 at one time.

Out of curiosity, do they show their bars very often? When breeding? I thought ours were the same population when yours were younger, but it seems the breeding coloration is very different.
