My Jar used to take crickets, scallops and shrimp from the surface but now he only eats from the bottom when I turn off the light. Tankmates are plecos, featherfin catfish and 2 cichlids. He hides behind the driftwood sometimes during the day. He got upset when I removed the floating duckweed from his tank but it was clogging my filter.

Must be stressed. Of what cichlids are you talking about? Beyond that, any kids, cats, something that may be scaring /stressing the Jar?

Might just be the reaction of taking surface plants out. They give fish a lot of security, especially the top water column dwelling fish. He might get used to it in time...

How big is your jar? Maybe he'll get used to not having the plants at the top. Have you tried blood worms? I have 7 in one tank and they love the frozen and as well as the freeze dried Bloodworms. They also love fresh shrimp, king crab legs, crickets, mussels. They really not mess with the freeze dried krill or the frozen beef hearts though.

Thanks all. The cichlid that might be bothering him is an African, livinstonii. It is also a predator and tries to gulp down the shrimp. At least he is eating and growing and every now and then beats up on the cichlid.
