I had my baby jar since he was about 2 inches. he grew to at least 5 inches in the month and a half i had him.

So he lost his appetite about 3 days ago, and his mouth was looking swollen, and his eyes started to sink in.

He has been in this tank for about 3 weeks now and was doing good.

His tank mates were 5 clown loaches and 10 yoyo loaches and a large pleco.

tank is

125 gallon
fx5
2 ac110's.

have yet to test the water params.

Just wanted to know how could this happen so fast?

could have been many different cuases. What did you feed? Any pics? Also params could have played a part in it.

i feed the loaches frozen veggies and brine and the aro would take some in, and also bloodworms and market shrimp and hikari bio gold. i feed the same food to all of my fish not just the fish in this tank.

sorry to hear you lost your baby.. sounds like you were feeding just fine.. could it have injured itself... maybe crashed into glass... and it could not eat... thats the only thing i can think of for it to happen this quick

id like to think that he smashed into the something too because his mouth was swollen.

i feel as if ive had bad luck with aros.

my first monster fish about 10 years ago was a silver, he jumped out.

my first jar wat eaten by my silver, my fault of course.

and now this. i dont know if i can buy another. i dont want to lose another aro.

WOW I am so sorry for you loss. I know for a fact some jardinis are pretty. I know if my dad's and I jardini died I would be pretty pissed as well. I fell very bad for you. If you decide to get another aro go with a hardy aro like the afican aro or you can try another a silver. I hope this doesn't make you stop keeping fish

i wont stop fish keeping, no way.

if there was a way id stop, it would only be if that fish in my avatar died prematurely.

i know how u feel... but sometimes it takes a few sad lessons... i have had this arow now 7 years... lost a couple before too... we all have learned now to weigh down the tank... and tape all the holes... your little guy definitly sounds like an injury... he may have been chasing one of the other fish... and missed... so sad...but i hope u try again..
