Jar loosing scales?

Yesterday morning I noticed my jar had some scales missing and slight eye damage and assumed he got spooked and jumped into the light reflector but today he has even more missing! I haven't seen any aggression what so ever. Only thing that has changed is i have made the tank bare bottom for easier maintenance, could this be the problem?

The only think that swims mid to top level is my day but he is very small and I have an RTC, TSN, giraffe cat, bichir and a common pleco. I really don't think it's the catfish because I never had a problem before and they are to small to try and eat him, i'v got a suspicion it's to do with the bare bottom because that's when it started? Any ideas of why that would/wouldn't cause it?, like reflection spooking him I 1 theory I have so far...

Looks like the jar is hitting the top of the tank. Had jars and silvers have this when they were younger.
 
My HB also same thing happened but damage was not this bad..Bare tank no tankmatees But mine lost 2 in the 3rd level(lateral line)
