So I have come to believe that Jar's will attack and kill any tank mates once they hit the 12" mark, from listening to post here.

Does this extend to fish the same size.

Lets say all at the same time and size I bought a Jar, a Florida Gar, and a Ray, and maybe 1 pacu. Do you think this would work? I am think they should all read monster size around the same time. I am hoping the Jar won't try to take on someone his own size.

From what i hear... it depends on the jar...not so much the size... and that at anytime they can change...that is the negative thing about a jar and tankmates.. everything goes along smooth...and then the jar who is totally unpredictable kills everyone for the heck of it...but i love a jar...you just need to keep them alone..

The trend is, they are aggressive. Mine is hitting the 6in mark and has started nipping the cories that it grew up with.

But if you search the threads, several people have kept them with tank mates successfully. I have found a trend that they have very large tanks as well.

I have a jar 17" with 15 clown loaches in a 240g. Acquired my jar 10 months ago when it was about 5 ". I added the clown loaches a month later. Jar has obviously outpaced the CL in growth. So far jar has tolerated and is coexisting with the CL. Sometime I noticed the jar getting a bit pissed of with the CLs as they often shadow him too closely picking on his food. Otherwise it appears jar has accepted the presence of the CLs. Jar is fed mainly on hikari food sticks, frozen beef heart, bloodworms, silver slides, live super worms, cichlids flakes and occasionally live crickets or frozen pinkies. I stay away from live feeders. I'm afraid it may acquire a taste for live fish and may turn to the CLs as food. I think live feeder may bring the murderous nature out of the jar...just my opinion. Who knows maybe one day the true nature of my jar may eventually emerge?

all depends to jard temper & the choice of the tankmates ... no one can tell for sure whether its going to be success or not ...

I was hoping that the size of the other fish and the stinger on the ray might be a deterrent I guess i will just ignore the jar then, not really fair to gamble with living creatures.

My jar killed everything except my bichirs. That includes two peacock bass that were much larger than he was and all 7 silver dollars I had in there as dithers. I wouldn't dare risk him with my rays. He may have been okay with them since they are bottom dwellers but it just wasn't worth the risk.

A Florida would be the best bet but he might eat the jar since they are attracted to silverly fis. If the Florida is a lil bigger than him and well feed thatd be a intresting mix
