I'm wondering what other people have had for experiences on this:

My Jar is about 14" now, and so far haven't had any issues with aggression until a while ago. I put dithers (large tinfoil barbs) in there to distract him from my other fish and he would only take a swipe at them every once and a while...then all of a sudden he was determined to kill them, and only them (expected behaviour from a Jardini).

My girlfriend LOVES the tinfoils and she was constantly asking me to move them before they get killed, so I finally caved and moved them into a 75 for now. As soon as I moved them out, he calmed right down. He's back to the way he was before I added the dither fish...cool, calm, and collected...and this has been over a span of a month or so. :screwy:

My theory is that because he's put on so much girth so quickly, the tinfoils started looking like potential prey and due to their small heads, the Jar may think he could easily take one down.

Has anyone else had an experience like this, or a similar one?

jars are pesters, its not what pulls them to attract, its when. my lei is in the same boat as your jar kinda, he's been fine since he was a baby. but anything shiny (like a huge or small tinfoil barb) or a silver aro or anything similiar in shape or color got attacked. he doesn't harm my bichirs, or my old dat. occassionally he'll swoop down and pick on my bichirs but thats rare.

jars will be jars, especially around 14"

I recently picked up a 22" jar and put him in a tank by himself. Since then I have tried adding several fish and each one has either been eaten or punked to where I had to rescue them. The guy that we picked him up from didn't have much luck adding any tank mates either. He has definitely claimed the tank as his and plans on keeping it that way.

All jars have a nasty streak in them.
