Hello all,

This is my first post on this board. I currently have a 3" Jardini and he has a 125 gallon all to himself. I know that they become mean b*stards around 8", but I was wondering if I got a small Florida Gar and raised them together would they be alright? What do you think? Could the Gar be a potential threat to the Jardini because he is so small?

Thanks for the input!

i tried a baby spotted gar with a baby arowana, the gar ended up attacking the small arowana n i was pissed. keeping them together could go bad both ways, you'd have to try it out to be sure on the compatibility.

you may get lucky. keep the gar well fed and keep a close eye on them. how big of a gar are we talking here? because ive had a 6-7" spotted pike characin in w/ my 15" florida gar and they do fine. its been several months now. but i do know if he wants the spotted pike its gone. so it would be a gamble.

I just placed an order for a 5" Florida Gar (if they can find one that small) so they will be roughly the same size. I do have another aquarium I can move the Gar to if trouble breaks out. I'm hoping if I rasie them together they will live in peace.

Trial and error! Sometimes searching for tankmates is frustrating, you have a good idea in looking for a smaller one. I've never kept a gar, so I can't offer personal experience. But I can wish you luck!

my arow i am getting will eventually be tank mates w/ my florida gar. be he has a long way to go til ill allow it. most gar have a very calm personality. although they will more than likely eat it if it fits. but i really think you will be fine. just watch them.
