Are Jardini's sensitive to light?

I have had my new Jardini in my 320 g plywood tank for about a month now and it has grown about 2" already (from 5 to 7 inches). It doesn't swim around much with the lights on though. It just stays in the corner near the water return pipe, sometimes swimming back and forth into the stream. I had T5 lights (4 x 54w) for a couple of weeks and then I switched it to just 2 x 40w (normal output 4' fluorescents). The tank is 30" deep. The reduced light did not seem to make much difference. When the lights are out, he swims back and forth the full length of the tank. He has 2 6" motoro rays for company and they all eat shrimp, bloodworm and earthworms.

How much light does others use?

It most probably not use to the tank enviroment as yet. Doubt it got to do with the lights.

I agree with Koji...just give him time and he'll be out more.

I use the standard 40 watt bulbs too, but both of my aros were shy for a while. Once they realize you're not a threat, they will be out all the time...begging for food.

I decided to put the T5 back instead of the normal output bulbs. The tank looks better with more light and the Jardini is starting to come out more. The light didn't seem to make much of a difference, like you guys said.

Glad to hear he's coming around. My jar used to get spooked when I would open the canopy to feed. He would bolt behind the driftwood and wouldn't feed as aggressively as I wanted to see. I just kept hanging around the tank and opening the canopy and closing it...before long he was eating right out of my hand.

Now, as soon as I enter the room he gets so excited to see me I usually have to add water to the tank from him splashing around at the surface so much. :D

make check your water quality. My Jardini does not like the UV light too. But it does like the live bait... drew worms which I get from the local bait shop.
The jardini is active jumper and likes to swim back and forward.... very fast sometimes hitting its head on the end of the glass.
Since, I am in Canada, I am thinking about trading this aro for an asain aro, which is less aggressive. :grinno:

I was thinking to do the same thing, trade him for a less aggressive aro but I got kind of attached to him so I guess I'll keep him after all. He doesn't bother my rays, at least.
